Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children North Campus Helping Children Get Back in the Game

Frisco, Texas, USA

The Challenge

Extend Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children’s world-class medical care to the growing suburbs north of Dallas.

The Design Solution

With 25 percent of its patients coming from the fast-growing suburbs north of Dallas, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children has branched out to Frisco. The North Campus offers outpatient services and surgeries for children with orthopedic issues including spine, hip, hand and foot disorders. A Center of Excellence in Sports Medicine anchors the campus, specializing in the treatment of sports-related orthopedic conditions and concussions.

Color-coded floors, a large spiral staircase and dynamic artwork reflect movement and encourage children toward recovery. The 40-acre campus in Collin County features playing fields, a walking and running trail and a playground park for patients and the community. The campus also provides an educational outreach program to improve athletic safety.

The five-story building will offer beautiful views of Lake Lewisville and will leave some space unused for future growth of the hospital.

The Design Impact

After nearly a century at the same Dallas location, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children took a historic step to expand its presence in Dallas northern suburbs. It was designed with the patient and family experience in mind and officials anticipate more than 20,000 clinical visits for sports medicine and more than 12,000 for physical therapy each year. The colorful building provides positive distractions, and the site’s welcoming landscape invites the surrounding community to enjoy the open areas, playing fields and walking trails.
